3D Design Software for 3D Printing
In Today’s Digital World, there are plentiful of 3D Design Software in the market now. Sometimes too many may not be good because for users like us, we will be in dilemma choosing the best software.
There is no single software that is the best because each software will have their strength, weakness, and function to meet different needs and requirement. Taking example from cars, there are many brands and types of cars in the market that suit different needs.
The “Best” software usually determines based on own experience – the user’s journey, be it designing or modifying the models. When you imported file from others and there’s some errors, whether the repairing process and features/methods from the software you are using helps you to solve your problem easily.
We will be sharing with you some of the recommended 3D Design Software from different users for your reference. The ranking is not in sequence.
Blender is a free and powerful open-source 3D computer graphic design software with awesome features, allowing users to create sculpting with variety of different brush types and dynamic topology to add or remove details on the fly. Blender is designed for animation; it has being used for award-winning shorts and feature films. There are many awesome features for modelling, rendering, simulation, game creation, VFX and video editing.
2. SketchUp Pro
SketchUp Free is a 3D Modeling software for creating geometric 3D objects for architectural models, interior design items, jewellery, etc. If you upgrade to SketchUp Pro, it allows you to design, document and communicate your ideas such as draw plans, elevations, details, title blocks, drafting, vector illustration, and slide presentation.
ZBrush is a digital sculpting software that enable you to use customizable brush to shape, texture and paint virtual clay. ZBrush has been widely used for creating highly details models such as characters, animals, flowers, vehicles that require high-resolution for games, models, animation and 3D print. It is also dominated as the best digital clay sculpting.
4. Autodesk Maya
Autodesk Maya, usually shortened to Maya, brands itself as “computer animation software” because it is commonly used by its users for 3D animation, environments, motion graphics, virtual reality, character creating and rendering purposes. Maya renders beautiful clips for animation and generates realistic clumping effects in hair and fur if you are looking for more natural-looking hair.
SOLIDWORKS is a solid modeller, parametric feature-based CAD software. It is widely used for mechanical design modeling, product design, simulation, and assemblies. Designers can optimize their design using the topology study for the ideal geometry to meet the product design requirement such as weight, strength, etc. in industries like aerospace, automotive, marine, electronics, manufacturing and many more.
6. Rhinoceros 3D
Rhinoceros, also known as Rhino or Rhino3D, geometry is based on the NURBS mathematical model, producing mathematically precise representation of curves and freeform surfaces. Rhino produce awesome visuals and beautiful images. You can also document your models with ease using their fast layout, dimensions, and annotation.
OpenSCAD is a free, script only-based parametric 3D modeling software. It is not an interactive modeller, instead it works like a 3D-compiler that leverages configurable parameters and script file to describe the object and renders the 3D model from this script file. This solution empowers designer to define customizable variables in their design and alter them at any point of the design process.
8. Autodesk Tinkercad
Tinkercad is a free, online browser-based 3D design software. This is great for students or anyone who are new to design software. Tinkercad allows users to combine several simple objects into more complex shapes or remove materials into arcs or holes from another objects. You can also add light and movement to your 3D designs with electronics circuits. If you prefer codeblocks, you can design 3D objects using code.
Sculptris is a virtual sculpting software with primary focus on the concept of modeling clay. User can pull, push, pinch and twist the virtual clay. Sculptris will constantly analysing the surface as you create to ensure that there are enough triangles to display the details.
10. Cinema 4D
Cinema 4D allows users to create their objects easily by using polygonal modeling, parametric modelling or sculpting. Polygons are 3D building blocks that can be stitch together to create the objects from cars to creatures. Cinema 4D also allows users to apply texturing to the model, animation, motion graphic, and rendering
11. Geomagic Design X
Geomagic Design X is a mechanical CAD software with emphasis on mechanical systems and assemblies. If you are looking for reverse engineering solution, Design X has the purpose-built in for converting 3D scan data into high-quality feature-based CAD models.
12. Geomagic Freeform
Geomagic Freeform is a touch-based software for 3D sculpting, surfacing and design intent modeling. Users will experience the feel of real sensation of clay modeling during designing as the software will deliver force-feedback to the user thru the haptic device. Geomagic Freeform offers a comprehensive design and sculpting toolsets allowing users to sculpt, detail and deform virtual clay models into any form you desire.
TopSolid is a fully integrated parametric CAD/CAM software allowing users to design and manufacture their parts using the same software. It is a powerful manufacturing solution for modeling, simulation and production. TopSolid range of software includes a whole family of industry solutions: from mechanical design to sheetmetal, wood, toolmaking and machining.
